Update... Jake - mostly good news!!

Jake had his ultrasound this afternoon and there are no signs of any cancerous activity (or other bad things) in his intestines, liver or pancreas! What a HUGE relief that is!!

Thanks so much to all of you who stopped by and took time to leave us an encouraging comment and your good thoughts... we appreciate it so much.

Of course, we are still dealing with the slightly mysterious gastrointestinal upset. The rest of the bloodwork results came back with readings well within normal limits. The bile acids test was normal, but it was still good to have the ultrasound confirm that his liver is not the problem.

The overnight staff started him on metronidazole, and according to the doctor I just spoke to, Jake does seem to be feeling better. They are going to start him back on a bland diet this evening and see how he handles it. If things don't go so well, he'll need to go back on IV fluids for another night. If things do go well, he may be able to come home as soon as tomorrow morning!

I don't know if we'll actually find out what caused this particular episode. It's probably going to remain a mystery. I guess it's just like how sometimes you or I will get one bad mushroom in our veal marsala, or one bad shrimp in the stir fry, and it makes our lives miserable for a couple of days :(

Yay! Jake looks like such a loveable dog (love how their piccys show up when you hover their links)... What a relief!

re: your comment in my blog, any time youre interested in Korean food, let me know! For some strange reason *grin* I know all the good Korean restaurants in town. =)

That's awesome news! I had the same thing happen with one of my piggies. He was really listless and not eating any treats. I took him to the vet, she found nothing wrong, and he just got over it himself. Silly animals! =)
