Side trip... five movies

Chicago Tribune columnist Bob Greene asked this question in a column a couple of weeks ago: If you were stranded on a desert island for the rest of your life, and you could choose five -- and only five -- movies to watch forever, what would they be? and invited his readers to e-mail (and only e-mail, no snail mail!) him their answers.

His own five picks, and reader's responses, started running in his column on Sunday... I've really enjoyed reading these columns, though I haven't come up with five picks of my own. Look under MORE... for my picks so far. I'll update and give my reasons when I figure out the rest. Update 4/14/02: added one more pick; one more to go.

I don't know whether Bob Greene is still accepting responses to his question, but if you wanted to tell me your picks in the comments section, I'd love to hear!

Well, I guess the first question my scientific, analytical mind would ask is "so there's a VCR or DVD player stranded on this deserted island with me and there's electricity in this joint, too?". After having asked that question, my next question would be "how in the world can I possible pick ONLY 5 movies?!?".

You see, this is why my husband says that I analyze things too much and "suck the fun right out of everything". :p

BTW, I just LOVE your blog, Kathi! :)

Good choice @ 12 Angry Men. That's a rarely heard of movie by the current generation that a coworker suggested to me. I love older movies and am currently trying to watch everything on American Film Institute's top 100 list. :) I'd have to mull my picks for a while.

Hi Kathi, I think this is my first time to your blog, and I LOVE IT!! Very cool *hug* :)

I think my pics would be National Velvet, Top Gun, A Christmas Story, Hoosiers and Office Space....but I like so many movies I'm sure as soon as I post this I'll change my mind *g*

If I could only watch five movies, they'd be:
Nightmare Before Christmas
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
History of the World Part I
either Monty Python's Holy Grail or Life of Brian

I could be happy watching those over and over. =)
